Wire Guard Tip

by Susan LeGuyader
Here's a surprising use for wire guards usually used in stringing.
Instructions
I was in the studio, working on a bracelet. I had used the rolling mill to "print" a feather onto silver, cut it out and finished it.

I had made the clasp and jump rings. And knew that I wanted to string some gorgeous turquoise rondelle beads onto leather. I even knew that I was going to use .5mm leather.
What I didn't know was how I was going to attach the leather to the bracelet bar. Leather that thin is prone to stretching and breaking.

I tried several things, such as knotting but still I was concerned about the breakage. And what floated to the top of my head as a solution was just weird but if it worked, then OMG! It would be so awesome.
Digging through the finding boxes ensued. And I was successful. In the past, I had made bracelets using thick beading wire and had to purchased large wire guards to accommodate the size of the beading wire.

I held my breath as I cut a new diagonal cut at the end of the leather and threaded the leather through the wire guard.

SUCCESS! I was almost giddy with delight. The problem-solving challenges of jewelry making is one of my favorite things.

So, string the leather onto the wire guard and then sliding in onto the bracelet bar was a design saver.
