Using Fun Tak as a Resist

If you love the look of a darkened patina, and you have a bezeled stone in your piece, consider whether the patina inside the bezel will affect the look of the stone. If you want to keep the bezel clean, try Fun Tak as a resist.
Instructions
Stones can be:
Transparent: Whatever is under the stone can be seen through it, as with the clear turquoise glass cabochon.
Translucent: There are varying degrees of translucency, meaning light can pass through the stone to some extent. Some underlying color/design may show through the stone, as with the pink druzy.
Opaque: Nothing will show through the stone, as with the black druzy.

Darkened metal would possibly make the pink druzy have a greyish cast. Since this pendant was to be patinated with liver of sulfur, that would mean a lot of work cleaning the patina out of the bezel that the pink druzy would sit in. To avoid patinating inside that particular bezel, fill the bezel cavity with Fun Tak - the stuff parents let their kids hang posters with so there are no nail or tack holes in the walls. Patina the piece. Pull the Fun Tak out - it may or may not need to be discarded depending on the patina medium used. The bezel is still bright and shiny and may only have minor clean-up. Set the stone-no color change.
