Using Fun Tak as a Resist

If you love the look of a darkened patina, and you have a bezeled stone in your piece, consider whether the patina inside the bezel will affect the look of the stone. If you want to keep the bezel clean, try Fun Tak as a resist.
Instructions
Stones can be:

Transparent: You can clearly see through the stone to whatever is underneath it, like with a clear turquoise glass cabochon.

Translucent: Light passes through the stone, but only partially. Some underlying color or design may be visible, as with a pink druzy.

Opaque: Nothing shows through the stone at all, like with a black druzy.

Darkened metal can give a pink druzy a greyish cast.

Since this pendant was going to be patinated with liver of sulfur, that meant extra work cleaning the patina out of the bezel where the druzy would sit.

To avoid this, fill the bezel cavity with Fun Tak the removable adhesive often used to hang posters without nails or tacks.

Patina the piece as usual.

Once done, pull out the Fun Tak. Depending on the patina medium used, it may or may not need to be discarded.

The bezel will remain bright and shiny, needing little to no cleanup.

Now you can set the stone without affecting its color.
