Tips for Cutting Memory Wire

by Debbie Blair
Memory wire is great to use for quick projects. If you've never worked with this hardened steel wire before, there are a few things to keep in mind when cutting it.
Instructions
Memory wire is sold in "coils," or loops. Determine how many loops (or rows) you want your bracelet (or necklace or ring) to be, and then cut the wire accordingly.

It is important that you don't use your nice flush cutters, as memory wire will damage them. Use memory wire shears that are made specifically for cutting the tempered wire. Or use heavy duty hardware store cutters.

If you don't have shears or hardware store cutters, it is possible to break memory wire without the use of cutters. Use two pairs of chain- or flat-nose pliers and bend the wire back and forth several times until it breaks.
