A humble roll of double stick tape turned into a versatile tool for everything from stone placement to planning out designs. Instructions
When you think of bench basics and design tools on your bench, what do you think about? Tools? Templates? Soldering? Stones or beads?
You might want to add Scotch double stick tape to your bench essentials. This simple tool has countless applications.

It can hold a small piece of metal in place for sanding, or even secure a bezel setting to a bench block while you set a stone.

There are a few varieties available. You'll find a super thick option called Nano tape, as well as a thinner version made by Scotch.

One of my favorite uses for double stick tape is in the design stage.

By sticking components to the tape, I gain much better control while arranging pieces like small balls or other delicate parts.

If you use a Sharpie to draw the outline of your backplate on a piece of paper, then place double stick tape on top, you take the guesswork out of placement.

You can also add tape directly to the backplate to help with positioning.

Another way I use double stick tape during setup is for planning out my design.

I stick the stone directly onto the tape, which lets me visualize the layout before committing to anything.

Add the notes you need.

Make the bezel, note where the solder seam will be.

It really helps take the guess work out of where you were going or where you were at in the design process, if you get up from the bench and do not get back to work for a few days.
