Sanding Small Items

by Kylie Jones
Sanding and polishing intricate small pieces is a necessary but time consuming job. They can be fiddly to hold and many of our sanding tools are just too big for the job
Instructions
A great solution is simply to anchor strips of sandpaper or polishing papers at one end and hold the other end like a big flexible sanding stick.

For my bench pin which is angled on one side I use a quick set hardware clamp. For bench pins with parallel edges you could use an alligator clip. You don't need a bench pin you can just clamp them to a table.

These strips can get into all the nooks and crannies and are great for cleaning up soldered jump rings. They can be tailored to the thickness you need and are good ways to use up left over pieces of sandpaper.

The strips can even be doubled over so you can finish 2 sides at once. This method saves your hands from cramping and can be used with any bench setup.
