Reproducing Designs

by Susan LeGuyader
I find the making of things the first time, much easier than duplicating them. Say you've worked on a concept for a new line. You've had a successful launch and now you have to make more to satisfy orders.

How to you keep track of what you need to recreate? What is the easiest way to accomplish production, without re-inventing the wheel every time? How do you streamline the process to maximize your time and effort?
Instructions
It's all about planning. It's about the development of the idea and taking the time to write down what you do and keep it where you can find it.

I started with taking notes on an index card.

I wrote down how much wire, what gauge, lengths of sides. Even the tools I used. Everything I would need to recreate it. I started in pencil to get the rough draft down. Next I will re-do it in pen and add a set of basic sample earrings to the card for reference. Then I can add it to my design book for future reference.

The glory of this system, as you polish the idea and refine it and change it, you can continue to add notes. You'll be able to whip out a new set of earrings in just moments.
