Jewelry Care

by Marilyn Gardiner
Today I have a quick tip on Jewelry Care. We are always wondering what to use - today we have some great suggestions from Marilyn.
Instructions

  • Protect your jewelry from getting banged or scratched.
  • Keep it away from chemicals, including those in pools or hot tubs.
  • Clean it regularly in mild, soapy water, rinse, and dry.
  • To slow tarnishing, store it in a re-closeable plastic bag with anti-tarnish paper.
  • Copper tarnishes more quickly than silver, but the patinas that develop in both metals are appealing.
  • There are kitchen recipes and commercial products for cleaning silver or copper back to a bright, shiny finish-just check on a search engine for "care of metal jewelry".
  • Copper & Jeweler's Bronze rings can be cleaned in lemon juice (try the bottled variety).

In the photo, the piece on the right spent a couple of minutes in the mug with lemon juice. It has been rinsed well and placed on paper towels to dry. The jewelry pieces on the left are waiting their turn.
