Embellish a Treasure Box

by Judy Larson
We don't always have to make jewelry with our jewelry making supplies. Altoid-type boxes have been embellished by crafters for years. But you don't always have to think small. Around most holidays, various sizes and shapes of empty tins or tins filled with goodies are available. There are so many hinged or removable lid metal boxes on the market that could be embellished.
Instructions
That sounds like such a fun and creative project! Mini hinged tin boxes are perfect little canvases for jewelry embellishments so many ways to play with beads, charms, wires, and tiny findings.

It's awesome that you let the neighbor kids join in and add their own touches, too. It must have been a blast watching everyone's unique designs come to life.

If you ever want, I'd love to help brainstorm ideas or suggest easy techniques for embellishing those boxes whether it's layering beads, adding tiny metal accents, or even experimenting with resin. What kind of jewelry supplies did you usually use on them?
Oh, I love that using finished jewelry pieces and even broken bits to create mosaics sounds like such a cool way to recycle and make something totally unique! Spray painting before embellishing is a great way to customize the base too. And turning the boxes into mini jewelry storage with padded bottoms? Genius.

E-6000 is definitely a go-to glue for these kinds of projects super strong and flexible. And riveting with a bench block inside the lid for support? That's some serious craftsmanship right there.

Your "More Is More" approach resonates so much with me! Layering and piling on beads, charms, and bits create such a rich, tactile vibe. I can totally picture those boxes overflowing with color and texture, like tiny treasure chests.

Do you have a favorite embellished box you've made or seen? Or one design idea you're itching to try next?
