Coin Focal Inspiration

by Judy Larson
The last time you looked through your jewelry box, or boxes like me, there were probably many pieces shoved to the side and no longer worn for one reason or another. Why not think about restyling them to have a more current look.
Instructions
Some of my bead jewelry needed to be revamped because I found I was not wearing it. A case in point was this bracelet made to match a three-strand necklace that I love.

Wearing the bracelet with the necklace seemed too matchy-matchy. Besides that, the slide clasp on this bracelet was too loose.
The strands were separated and restrung on 49 strand beading wire instead of 19 strand. They sat on the bead board for several days because design ideas were not coming to me for a focal closure.

After realizing I also did not often wear my coral necklace and bracelet set for the same reason I did not wear the multi-colored gemstone bracelet, maybe adding more coral would be the solution. Off to my box of red coral I went.

A friend gave the coral coin focal to me less than six months ago. How could I have put it away in my box with coral beads and promptly forgotten about such a unique piece? I am going to blame it on old age, not that I have way toooo many beads and don't remember a tenth of what is there!

The obvious solution to attach the coral coin in a bracelet would be with a beaded loop through the center hole. Kicking it up a notch by bezel setting the coin added to the focal feeling and tied into the silver on both ends of the bracelet.
It was only after I finished the bracelet that I remembered the Japanese 50-yen coins in my stash and promptly made one of the coins into a focal and made a similar bracelet with it. BONUS! Both bracelets look fantastic with both the multi-gemstone and coral necklaces AND a lot of my Southwest jewelry!
