Build Better Bead Storage

by Judy Larson
Judy Larson shares a clever storage solution that began as simple pine shelves for family closets and evolved into the perfect home for bead boxes. It's a reminder that sometimes the best organizing ideas come from repurposing what you already have.
Instructions
Being only 7" deep, one of these shelves takes up hardly any space in my work room, and BONUS, all of my beads are out in the open so I don't often order the same ones thinking I don't have them!

Colored labels with the name of the stones contained in each box were run through my sticker maker and attached to each box.

When the boxes get mixed up, as they always do, I don't need to read each label.

Looking for the label color saves a lot of time.

The top shelf holds metric and standard mandrels for making jump rings, a couple antique tools I inherited from my watchmaker father-in-law, as well as steel and rubber blocks.

After watching Kim St. Jean in one of her wire jewelry video classes, I even took apart one of my "Sad Irons" to use the base as a bench block.

There is also just enough room above the bead boxes on one shelf for the thin box of colored pencils I sometimes use when sketching out new ideas.
