Measurements of wire will vary depending on the intended ring size and stone used.
To work out the required length of the base wires, measure the circumference of the intended size on a ring mandrel or around the finger with a tape measure or by wrapping some scrap wire/string around your finger/mandrel and mark where it meets itself then measure this against a ruler.
Add on a couple of inches either side for decoration around the cabochon and for securing the ring band.
Before weaving, deduct the size of your stone from the required length of the shank, so that the weaving required will be determined by the length of the circumference of ring size minus the size of the cabochon.

Instructions
Step 1
Find the center of the wire and mark where to start your weaving, so that the intended woven length is central and there is roughly the same length of excess base wires either side of the weave.
Natalie Patten's Woven Wire Wrapped Cabochon Ring - , Contemporary Wire Jewelry, Wire Wrapping, Wrapping, Wire Wrapping Jewelry, Weaving, Wire Weaving, Weaving Wire, find the center of the wire
Step 2
Wrap your weaving wire three times onto one of your base wires to secure.

Step 3
Place the second length of base wire above the first and wrap over both wires twice.

Step 7
Cut off the starting tail of weaving wire and secure in any sharp ends with pliers.

Step 8
Wrap the woven section of the ring base around the mandrel of your desired size, so that the wires overlap the top of the mandrel, sitting above and below one another.

Step 9
Using the weaving wire from the woven shank, (or half round wire if preferred) use it to bind all six ends of the base wires together.

Step 13
Use cutters to trim off the excess weaving wire on the outer part of the ring shank, as it will be hidden underneath the cabochon to prevent scratching when worn.

Step 14
Once again, check the intended size on your ring mandrel. Adjust, if necessary, by stretching out on the mandrel or gently pulling on the base wires to tighten.
