Step 1
Start by using your round-nose pliers to begin creating an open spiral.

The spirals should be 8-10mm in diameter.

Step 3
Next, use a dowel or mandrel pliers to create a loop to sit on top of the spiral.

Step 4
After creating the middle loop, use your round nose pliers to create a smaller loop on top of the previous loop.

Step 5
The wire should be going off to the side after completing the final loop.

Now, place your chain nose pliers next to the top loop.

Bend the wire backward and toward the opposite direction.

Place your chain nose pliers next to the loop like before and bend the wire like the previous step.

Use your chain nose pliers to compress the wire.

Hold the bent wire with the chain nose pliers and bend the wire up.

Next, at about 1/4" bend the wire to the left to begin creating the hat.

At about another 1/4", bend the wire down to complete the hat shape.

Now, bend the wire across the top of the hat and off to the side.

Mark the wire from the outside wire at 3/8" and cut the wire.

These next three steps are optional. Take your chasing hammer and begin to hammer the spiral flat. Not too much, we don't want to make the wire brittle!

Use the ball end of the hammer to add texture to the wire.

Repeat steps 17-18 for the top hat.

Next, take your round nose pliers and create a spiral with the remaining wire. It should lay on top of the hat.

(Optional) Pull the swirl forward, gently, with your chain nose pliers.

(Optional) Hammer the swirl flat. Add texture if desired.

Next, use your segment of 28-gauge wire and, from the back, begin wrapping the wire around the top hat swirl.

Wrap the weaving wire around the swirl 3 times.

Next, string on the 6mm bead and begin wrapping the wire around the top of the bottom spiral.

Secure the wire by wrapping the wire around the outside portion of the spiral 3 times.

Note: You can scoot the wrapped wire to sit behind the spiral.

Use your flush cutters to trim any excess wire and tuck in the ends with your chain nose pliers.

Use your chain nose pliers to gently bend the brim of the top hat.
