Instructions
Step 1
Materials: (x3) 4" 20 gauge square wire, (x2) 3" 21 gauge 1/2 round wire, (x4) 2" 21 gauge 1/2 round wire, (x2) 4" segment of 28 gauge wire and (x2) jump ring. Tools: Ruler, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers and flush cutters.
Step 2
Mark at 2" on the 3 segments of square wire and wrap the 3" 1/2 round wire around the square wire about 5 times. Then compress the wire with your pliers.
Step 3
While holding the bound wire with your pliers, begin pulling the furthest wire back to create an oval. The oval shape should measure about 3/4".
Step 4
Bend the wire on top of the oval straight up with your pliers.
Step 5
Take the segment of 28 gauge wire and wrap it around one of the bent wires 3 times.
Then wrap the wire over both and in between the two wires.
Next, wrap the wire around the wire you started with 1 time. This weave is called the Modified Soumak Weave. Repeat 2-3 times.
Step 6
Finish the weave by wrapping the wire around the starting wire 3 times.
Step 7
Trim off the excess wire with your flush cutters and tuck in any burs with your chain nose pliers.
Step 8
Measure 5/8" from the top of the oval. Trim off the wire with your flush cutters and create a loop with your round nose pliers.
Step 9
Begin to pull up the very front wire and cross them over just under the "stem" of the pumpkin.
Step 10
Trim off the wire about 1/8" outside the frame of the pumpkin. Carefully, round the ends over the frame and tuck them under the wire.
Step 11
(Optional) Next, begin to twist the remaining wire. You can do this with a pin vise or using two sets of pliers.
Step 12
Begin rounding the wire using your fingers and curl the wire just above the bottom of the pumpkin to create a loop.
Step 13
Repeat step 12 on the opposite side going the other way. The wires should cross over like the previous wire. Then, trim off the excess wire where the wires meet.
Step 14
Use your round nose pliers to create a loop facing outward at the end of the wire. Do the same on the opposite side.
Step 15
Grab a segment of 1/2 wire remaining and slide it through the loop. Begin wrapping it around the frame of the pumpkin to secure the loop.
Step 16
Trim off the excess wire and tuck in the wire with your chain nose pliers.
Step 17
Open up a jump ring and add on the pumpkin.
Step 18
At this point, you can add ear wires for earrings or use them as a charm or pendant! You could even add beads and crystals for a nice pop of color!
