This pattern uses just your wire to make all the prongs you need to hold in the cabochon stone. You coil along the base wire and every few mm, just make a loop as a prong. You'll get the hang of it!

Instructions
Step 1
First of all we have to measure the length of our stone circumference, as we can use any size of teardrop shaped cabochon for this project. I will use a 30 mm tall cabochon. Take any wire, position the initial end of it close to the top of your stone on the left side, then bend the wire all around the stone circumference, as shown here.

Step 2
At the top of the stone on the right side cut off the extra wire end then straighten this short wire. This piece of wire measures the length of our stone circumference.

Step 3
Cut a base wire of the 18ga (1 mm) wire, 2 times as long as your stone circumference.

Step 4
For the weave we will use 22ga (0.6 mm) wire. We have to cut a weaving wire 6 times as long as our stone circumference length. Bend this weaving wire in half as shown here.

Position the bent center of the weaving wire around the central point of the base wire, as shown here.

Step 6
Take the right half of the weaving wire, wrap it 5 times around the center of the base wire, as tight as you can.

Step 7
Now repeat the same step with the left weaving wire end as well, making another 5 wraps around the base wire.

Step 8
Make sure that both weaving wire ends are pointed upwards. Measure a 1 cm length on the right weaving wire end, then bend it downwards as shown here. This will be the length of our prongs and this is our first prong.

Step 9
Hold this prong tight between your fingers then make another 10 wraps with the right weaving wire end.

Step 10
Repeat the same bending and weaving steps with the left weaving wire end as well, to make another prong on the left side. After this prong wrap the left weaving wire end 10 times around the base wire, as tight as you can.

Step 11
Now we have to continue to make prongs with the right and left weaving wire ends, making the prongs one by one on each side, until we arrive at the ends of the weaving wires.

Step 12
Position the back of your stone in front of you. Position the center of the woven base wire over the bottom center of the stone as shown here, then slowly start to bend the base wire with the prongs upwards (on both sides), following the path of the stone circumference on the back.

Step 13
Continue to bend the base wire with the prongs over the stone circumference on the back, until the 2 ends of the base wire cross over each other at the top of the stone.

Step 14
Close to the top of the stone, with the help of the chain nose pliers, bend both base wire ends upwards, to make them vertical.

Step 15
We can separate the base wire from the stone. Cut a 10 inches (25 cm) long wire of the 22ga (0.6 mm) wire. Position the initial end of this wire behind the 2 base wire ends, close to the recently bent part of them.

Step 16
Wrap this weaving wire around both base wires until you arrive at the end of your weaving wire.

Step 17
Position the wire structure in front of you, then position your cabochon over the wire structure, making sure that the front of the stone is facing you.

Hold the stone tight between your fingers and the wire structure, then start to bend the prongs to the front, bending them tightly over the stone, as shown here and in the next picture.

Step 19
This is the result we must get. Make sure that each prong is bent very tightly over the stone.

Step 20
Switch to the left side view of the pendant. Bend the upper half of the woven part on base wires to the front, as shown here.

Step 21
Now bend the base wire ends downwards over the front of the stone, to complete the bail for the pendant.

Switch to the front view. Bend the base wire ends to the sides, then bend them upwards, making a little curve with them over the stone, as shown here.

Step 23
Hold the curved part of the base wires tight within your fingers and the stone, then bend both base wire ends backwards.

Switch to the back view. Bend the base wire ends downwards then bend them to the opposite directions to cross them over each other on the back of the stone

Step 25
At the point where these 2 base wire ends cross over each other, bend them downwards with the help of the chain nose pliers. Cut a 2 inches (5 cm) long weaving wire of the 22ga (0.6 mm) wire. Wrap it 3 times around these 2 base wire ends to connect them, then cut off the extra weaving wire end.

Step 26
Make sure that the length of these 2 base wire ends is the same, otherwise cut off the extra end of the longer base wire. With the help of the chain nose pliers we have to bend both base wires end upwards, making a small loop with them, as shown here and in the next picture.
