I started forming wire for this focal piece of this necklace using 12 gauge. You could also use 14 gauge or aluminum wire. Use a sturdier wire for this project especially if you end up pouring resin within the focal. It's a lovely statement piece even without the resin. It's also very adaptable if you want to make the focal smaller or larger. Simply increase or decrease the wire length and bends.

Step 1
Straighten the wire using a wire straightener, cut 8" of wire and make the top loop at one end.

Step 2
Place the Wubbers pliers approximately ½" down the wire and bend over the jaw.

Step 3
Place the Wubbers pliers approximately 2" down the wire and bend over the jaw.

Step 4
Place the Wubbers pliers on the right side of the wire and bend over the jaw.
Pro Tip: Make sure the two edged of the wire meet below the top loop.

Step 5
Place the Wubbers pliers on the end of the wire and create a loose spiral.
Pro Tip: Make sure the two edged of the wire meet below the top loop.

Step 6
Hammer the piece flat using your ball peen hammer. *This is to make the back side of your focal flat for resin pouring. Use a texture hammer to add in some texture if desired. Reshape if needed.

Step 7
You can either attach the focal piece to your necklace as in Step 9 or continue with the resin process.

Resin Process: Place your focal flat side down onto a piece of packing tape and fold the bottom and top tape edge up so you have a place to hold onto when moving the piece. Burnish the back side of the tape so the wire edges are tightly sealed to
Pro Tip: This is the most important step in the resin process. If there is even the slightest gap between the tape and wire, the resin will leak out.

Step 8
Using a UV resin, place a few drops of resin into the wire focal and let it self-level. Add glitter, shells and other inclusions with a tweezers. Place under the UV lamp and cure for 1-5 minutes (until it isn't sticky). Add as many thin layers as desired curing between layers. When finished, remove the tape.

Step 9
Attach 20" of leather to the top loop using a purchased jump ring or make your own jump ring.
