Instructions
Step 1
Materials and tools for this project are shown on this picture. I will use 18ga (1 mm) base wire and 26ga (0.4 mm) weaving wire. This teardrop shape cabochon is 34 mm tall.
Step 2
Cut 2 base wires with the length of 10 inches (25 cm), each.
Step 3
Take one of the base wires. Bend it in half, as shown here.
Step 4
Continue to bend the wire ends to the opposite directions, until you make a 0.4 cm tall loop with the center of the base wire.
Step 5
Position the loop in front of you, making sure that the wire ends are pointed upwards. You must have a 90 degree angle between the 2 wire ends, otherwise adjust the distance between the wire ends.
Step 6
Take the second base wire, hold the center of it tight within the chain nose pliers, as shown here.
Step 7
Bend the left half 90 degrees backwards.
Step 8
Position the bent center of the second base wire over the loop of the first base wire, as shown here.
Step 9
Cut a 32 inches (80 cm) long weaving wire. Bend it in half.
Step 10
Position the bent center of the weaving wire behind the crossing wire ends above the loop of the first base wire.
Step 11
Wrap each weaving wire end 10 times around the base wire, as tight as you can.
Step 12
Now position the second base wire over the first one, then wrap each weaving wire end 3 times around both base wires. Let's call this weave 10-3 weave.
Step 13
On the right side, make another 4 rotations of the 10-3 weave, as tight as you can.
Step 14
Repeat the same weaving steps on the left side as well.
Step 15
Hold the loop tight within the chain nose pliers and bend the loop 90 degrees backwards.
Step 16
Position the loop over your working place, then position the bottom center of your stone over the loop. The woven base wire ends are pointed toward yourself.
Step 17
On both sides, bend the woven base wires over the side of the stone, as shown here and on the next picture.
Step 18
Now, on both sides bend the end of the woven part into a small curve, in a way that the end of the weave meets with the back circumference of the stone.
Step 19
Repeat the same step on the left side as well.
Step 20
Here, on the left side of the stone, take the upper base wire and bend it slightly to the right side direction, as shown with the arrow.
Step 21
Switch to front view. Bend the wire end upwards, making a little curved part with it over the upper left side of the stone, and positioning the wire end close to the top end of the stone.
Step 22
Switch to the right side of the pendant and repeat exactly the same steps on this side as well.
Step 23
This is the result we must get from the front view.
Step 24
Switch to back view. Take the other base wire ends from both sides, bend them completely downwards over the back of the stone, positioning them close to the loop.
Step 25
Take the weaving wire end from the left side (from this point of view), position it close to the top of the stone, then wrap it 5 times around the 2 base wire ends above the top of the stone.
Step 26
Over the base wires, cut off the extra weaving wire end, then pressure it with the chain nose pliers until it is completely closed.
Step 27
Switch to front view. 1 cm above the recently woven part, hold both wire ends tight within the chain nose pliers and bend them 90 degrees backwards, as shown on the next picture.
Step 28
Switch to right side view. Bend the wire ends completely downwards, making the bail for the pendant.
Step 29
Switch to back view. Take the other weaving wire end from the right side, wrap it 5 times around both base wire ends and the crossing weaving wire (which comes from the left side).
Step 30
On the right side of these base wires, cut off the extra weaving wire end, then pressure the short end under the base wires until it is completely closed.
Step 31
Position these 2 base wires ends between the loop and the other base wires.
Step 32
Cut a 6 inches (15 cm) long weaving wire. Insert the weaving wire under all base wires and the loop, positioning the center of the weaving wire under the loop.
Step 33
Wrap both ends of the weaving wire 3 times around the loops and both base wires, to connect them.
Step 34
On both sides, cut off the extra weaving wire end, then pressure the ends of them with the chain nose pliers, until they are completely closed.
Step 35
Leave a I cm long end on the inner base wires (which come from the bail), cut off the extra wire ends.
Step 36
On the left side, hold this short wire end tight within the round nose pliers and bend it upwards, making a closed loop with it.
Step 37
Repeat exactly the same step on the right side as well.
Step 38
Switch to front view. Make sure that these 2 small loops remain hidden from the front view.
Step 39
Take the last 2 base wire ends, bend them completely upwards, bending them tightly over the stone, them move them slightly to the sides of the stone.
Step 40
Cut a 4 inches (10 cm) long weaving wire. Position the center of this weaving wire behind these 2 base wire ends.
Step 41
Take the right end of the weaving wire, wrap it 2 times around both base wires, to connect them.
Step 42
Now move these 2 base wires toward yourself, as we will need to cut off the weaving wire ends behind the base wires, to keep them hidden. (Picture taken from the left side view)
Step 43
Behind the base wires cut off both weaving wire ends, then pressure them with the chain nose pliers until they are completely closed.
Step 44
Now bend the wire ends tightly over the stone, positioning them close to the woven part (on both sides).
Step 45
Bend the wire ends completely backwards, then downwards.
Step 46
Switch to back view. Position the wire ends close the central loop, as shown on this picture.
Step 47
Cut a 4 inches (10 cm) long weaving wire. Wrap it 5 times around the 2 base wires on the right side of the stone.
Step 48
Cut off both weaving wire ends, then pressure them with the chain nose pliers, until they are completely closed. Leave a 1 cm long end on the inner base wire, cut off the extra wire end.
Step 49
With the help of the round nose pliers, bend this short wire end upwards, making a small, closed loop with it.
Step 50
Repeat exactly the same weaving and bending steps on the left side as well.
Step 51
Your beautiful pendant is ready.
