(To make a small 6" cuff. Add 2" to create a medium cuff and 4" to create a large cuff.)
Take a 10" segment of 16-gauge wire and gently hammer it flat with a chasing hammer and steel bench block.
Then, grab (x2) 10" segments of 18-gauge wire and the 16-gauge wire and mark the center of each wire. Then mark 3" inches on either side from the center mark.
(This will make the length 6" total to create a small cuff. (Add 1" for a medium cuff and 2" for a large cuff).
Take one of the 18-gauge segments of wire and wrap your 28-gauge weaving wire around it 3 times to start the weave.
Then, stack the 16-gauge wire and the other 18-gauge wire on top and bring the weaving wire underneath the 16-gauge wire and back over top the other 18- gauge wire and wrap the weaving wire around it 2 times.
Then, bring the wire back up and over top the 16-gauge wire and then down and around the bottom 18-gauge wire 2 times.
Continue this weave until you reach the furthest sharpie mark on your wire. Trim off the excess wire when you've finished the weave.
Curve the wire towards the center.
Trim the remaining wire, if necessary, to create even swirls.
Before swirling the wire, hammer the ends of the wire flat. This will help to add dimension to your swirls.
Swirl the ends of the wires with your round-nose pliers.
Hammer the outer edges of the swirls, if desired, and lay them back onto the cuff.
"Pierce" the weave with an awl just under each swirl.
Feed a 3" segment of 28-gauge weaving wire through the hole just below the top swirl making sure to secure the top swirl to the cuff.
Pull the wire through the hole underneath the bottom swirl and wrap the weaving wire around the bottom swirl and the midsection of the top swirl.
Wrap each tail end of the weaving wire around the top wire 3 times to secure the weave.
Trim the middle 16-gauge wire ⅜" from the end of the weave and create a loop on each end.
Take a 3" segment of 18-gauge wire and hammer the end of the wire flat with a chasing hammer.
File the hammered end smooth with a needle file.
Wrap the wire over top of a small bail making mandrel to create a hook and then use your round nose to create a small loop just beneath the hook. Trim off the excess.
(Optional) Hammer the outer portion of the hook to add dimension and/or hammer it with a rubber mandrel to harden the hook clasp.
Attach the hook to the cuff through one of the loops at the end.
Using a bracelet mandrel or a round object like a jar, gently mold the bracelet around it to create the cuff.
(Optional) Hammer the cuff lightly with a rubber mallet onto the mandrel to help harden the bracelet.
And here's the finished piece!
