In this wire wrapped pendant tutorial we will learn how to make a beautiful pendant with a horizontally top-drilled bead. It uses a teardrop-shaped bead. I recommend you to use dead soft copper wire, which is easy to bend, however you can use silver or silver filled wire as well.
This project is very versatile, as you can use different bead sizes, following the same steps. If you use a larger bead than 20 cm tall, you must cut a longer base wire.

Step 1
Materials and tools for this project are shown on this picture. For the base I will use 20ga (0.8mm) wire, for the weave 28ga (0.3 mm) wire.
This bead is a 20 mm tall teardrop shaped bead, horizontally drilled on the top.

Step 2
Cut a 10 inch (25 cm) long base wire of the 20ga (0.8 mm) wire. Insert the base wire into the hole of the bead and position the bead to the center of the wire, so both ends of it have the same length on the sides of the bead. If you want to leave room for little modifications, I recommend you cut a 12 inch (30 cm)
long base wire.

Step 3
Hold the bead and the base wire tightly between your fingers, then take the right half of the base wire and bend it completely to the left side direction, bending it tightly around the front of the bead.

Step 4
Now bend this base wire end downwards, making a curve with it over the right side of the stone, as shown here.

Step 5
Take the left half of the base wire, bend it completely over the right side, bending it tightly over the bead.

Now bend this base wire end downwards, making a curve with it over the left side of the stone, as shown here.

On the right side of the stone, close to the right middle, bend the base wire to make a small loop over the side of the stone.

Repeat the same step with the left base wire end as well, making a small loop over the left middle of the stone.

Now we have to bend both base wire ends backwards, bending them tightly around the back of the stone, as shown here and on the next pictures. From the bottom view, bend the right base wire end backwards, then bend it upwards over the back of the stone.

Repeat the same step with the left base wire end as well.

Switch to the back view. Bend both base wires tightly over the back of the stone, then adjust the position of the base wire ends until they cross over each other
above the pointed end of the stone on the top.

From the back view, at the point where the left base wire end meets with the pointed top of the stone, hold it tight within the tip of the chain nose pliers, and bend the wire end completely upwards.

Repeat the same step with the other base wire end as well, so both wire ends are point upwards above the top of the stone.

Cut a 12 inch (30 cm) long weaving wire of the 28ga (0.3mm) wire. Position the initial end of the weaving wire behind the base wire ends, close to the top of
the stone, then start to coil the weaving wire around the base wires, as tight as you can.

Step 16
Behind the base wires, cut off the short extra initial tail of the weaving wire, then press it with the chain nose pliers, to close it completely.

Coil the weaving wire around the base wires, as tight as you can, until you arrive close to the end of the weaving wire.

Cut off the short weaving wire tail, then again, press it with the tip of the chain nose pliers, to close it completely.

From the back view of the stone, hold the initial end of the coiled part within the chain nose pliers, move the coiled base wire end slightly toward yourself.

Now hold the center of the coiled part tight within the center of the round nose pliers.

Bend the base wire ends to the front, then bend them downwards over the front of the stone, in a way that the ends of the coiled part meet with the top of the
stone, as shown here. This will be the bail of the pendant.

From the front view, move the base wire ends outwards, until they meet with the loops on the sides of the stone.

With the wires snug up against the previous wires on the front, bend these 2 base wire ends completely backwards, and upwards over the
back of the stone.

Switch to the back view. Bend these base wire ends to the opposite directions, positioning them over the small loops on either side.

Step 25
On the left side of the stone, trim the base wire end to 4mm longer than the point where the wire end meets with the small loop. The yellow line shows the where the wire should end.

Hold this short wire end within the tip of the chain nose pliers, then start to bend it backwards, positioning the wire end into the small loop.

This is the same step from the bottom view. We have to bend the wire end backwards, as much as possible.

With the tip of the chain nose pliers, push the base wire end under the loop, then press it to close the bent wire end around the loop completely, securing the wire to the loop.
