These chain maille earrings are made with elf weave. It has a distinctive beautiful pattern. It can be frustrating at the beginning but once you understand the pattern it becomes very easy. I have used larger silver rings and smaller anodized niobium rings to accentuate the pattern and also make the instructions easier to follow.

Instructions
Step 1
Begin with silver rings and place 2 closed rings on an open ring and close the ring. Add a colored ring in the same place as the single ring to form a 2 in 2 pattern.

Step 2
Arrange the rings so the 2 silver rings are split with one on either side and the silver and colored rings are in the center, with the colored ring under the silver ring.

This weave is easy once mastered but can be frustrating in the beginning. Check the orientation of your rings with the photo as it is easy to get off track by having a ring that is flipped the wrong way.

Step 3
Attach some wire or string to the top silver ring so it is easy to distinguish. I have attached the beginning of the weave to some foam tape, it makes it easy to see the pattern and saves you having to rearrange the rings every time you add a ring.

Step 4
Take an open colored ring down into the center of the first colored ring and out through the center of the right hand silver ring, and close the ring.

Take another open colored ring down into the center of the first colored ring and out through the center of the left hand silver ring, and close the ring.

Take an open silver ring and go up through the center of the left hand colored ring and down through the center of the right hand colored ring, and close the ring

Take another open silver ring and go up through the center of the silver ring just added and down through the right hand colored ring, and close the ring.

Take another open silver ring and go up through the center of the first silver ring and down through the left hand colored ring, and close the ring.

Step 7
The next ring is going to sit at the back of the weave. Take an open colored ring and go down into the left hand silver ring and out through the right hand silver ring, making sure this colored ring is going behind or below and not through the center silver ring.

Step 8
Take an open colored ring down into the center of the first colored ring and out through the center of the right hand silver ring, and close the ring.

Step 9
Take an open silver ring and go up through the center of the left hand ring and down through the center of the right hand ring.

Add 2 more silver rings in the same place as the previous ring.

Step 10
At the top of the earring add another silver ring in the same place as the top middle silver ring.

Attach the ear wire to the 2 top middle silver rings. This weave is beautiful on both sides so you can choose which side you want to be the front.
