Step 1
Materials and tools for this project are shown on this picture. I will use 17ga (1.25mm) and 22ga (0.6mm) wires. I will use a 20 mm tall bead for this ring, which is not flat back. If you have a flat back cabochon, your work will be easier.

Step 2
Once the length of your ring band has been measured, we have to cut a base wire of the 17ga (1.25mm) wire, which must be 3cm longer than the length of your ring band. For example: I will make a ring size 8 (US size), which has a 6cm long ring band. My base wire should be 6+3cm long, 9 cm exactly.

Hold the right end of your base wire tight within the bottom of the round nose pliers, as shown on this picture.

Bend the base wire tightly around one side of the round nose pliers, as shown here, to make a loop with this wire end.

At the point where the loop ends, hold the wire tight within the chain nose pliers and bend it slightly to make it straight.

Position the loop over the ring mandrel, over the size you wish to make.

Hold the loop tight between your fingers and the mandrel, then bend the wire end all around the mandrel, as shown here.

Separate the wire from the mandrel. This is the result we must get.

On the right side of the loop, at the point where the wire end meets with this loop, hold it tight within the chain nose pliers and bend it 90 degrees upwards.

Now bend this short wire end all around the top of the loop, as shown on this picture.

If the wire end is longer than the top of the loop, cut off the extra end of it.

With the help of the chain nose pliers, bend the wire end close to the loop, to follow the same path.

For the stone setting we need 3 wires of the 22ga (0.6 mm) wire, with the length of 4 inches (10cm), each.

Take one of these wires, position it behind the loop of the ring, making sure that the center of this 22ga (0.6mm) wire is at the center of the loop.

Hold the 22ga (0.6 mm) wire tight between your fingers and the loop, then wrap the upper wire end once around both wires at the top of the loop.

Now wrap the lower wire end around the lower side of the loop, as tight as you can.

Take a second 22ga (0.6mm) wire, and repeat exactly the same steps, as shown here and on the next picture.

Now we have to repeat exactly the same steps with the third 22ga (0.6mm) wire as well.

Position your stone over the loop (center of the wire structure), as shown here.

Take the right upper wire end, bend it downwards over the top left side of the stone, positioning the wire end below the ring band. Take the left lower wire end, bend it upwards over the bottom right side of the stone, positioning the wire end above the ring band.

Hold the stone tight between your fingers and the wire structure, then on the right side of the stone, wrap this wire end once around the ring band, as tight as you can.

Switch to left side view and repeat the same step with the other wire end.

Position the stone in front of you and make sure both wires are positioned tightly over the stone, otherwise pull the wrapped wire ends with the chain nose pliers, until they are holding the stone tightly.

On the right side, leave a very short end on the wrapped wire, cut off the extra end of it.

With the help of the chain nose pliers bend the short wire end around the ring band, then pressure it until it is completely closed.

Let's repeat exactly the same steps on the left side as well.

Position the ring in front of you. Move the 2 upper wire ends slightly to the left, then move the 2 lower wire ends slightly to the right.

Take the upper wire ends, bend them downwards over the top right side of the stone, positioning them below the ring band. Take the lower wire ends, bend them upwards over the bottom left side of the stone, positioning them above the ring band.

Leave a 0.3 cm long end on both wires, cut off the extra ends of them.

With the help of the chain nose pliers, bend these short wire ends around the ring band, then pressure them until they are completely closed.
