Christmas Chrysanthemum Hair Clip

I originally developed this project using 28-gauge wire and the wire broke too easily so I landed on 26-gauge wire. Carefully push the wire when manipulating it rather than pulling it to prevent breakage. This project uses a favorite bead weaving technique, Right Angle Weave (RAW).

The hair clip used in this project must have one hole at the top to secure the wire. If the clip is a different size, you can alter the quantity and size of beads used so they fit well on the clip.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut a 40" piece of wire. I used green, feel free to use any color that compliments your beads. Bend it in half and slip the loop through the clip hole.

Step 2

Slip the two wire ends through the wire loop.

Step 3

Pull the wire ends apart and flatten using the nylon jaw pliers.

Step 4

Slide an 8mm bead onto one wire end and slide the other wire end through the bead going in the opposite direction. This bead is referred to as a "crossover" bead.

Step 5

Push the wires all the way through the crossover bead and gently pull the wires tightly to secure the bead.

Step 6

Add an 8mm bead to each wire.

Step 7

Add an 8mm crossover bead and repeat steps 4&5. This forms a square and is considered one unit of RAW.

Step 8

Open the clip, take one wire end and wrap it around one side of the the clip base twice.

Step 9

Repeat the wraps around the other clip side and crossover the wires again through the last bead added.

Step 10

Repeat these steps to add another RAW unit.

Step 11

Wrap each wire around the clip base sides twice.

Step 12

Add two 6mm beads to the wires and an 8mm bead to form another RAW unit.

Step 13

Wrap wires around the clip sides and crossover the wires again through the last bead added.

Step 14

Add two 4mm beads and a 6mm bead to form another RAW unit.

Step 15

Repeat Step 14 for the last RAW unit.

Step 16

Once you've wrapped your wires around the clip sides, criss-cross them on the back side of the clip.

Step 17

Twist the wires 2-3 times, cut excess wire and flatten with the nylon jaw pliers.
