Have you ever gone to a gift store and come across gorgeous tumbled stones, and just had to have a few? I found these at the Vermont Country Store a few years ago, and a few came home with me complete with a velvet drawstring pouch. They are a delight to hold in your hand and feel the warmth they bring; and get lost in their amazing colors, yet not so easy to capture.

Using this simple method, you can capture that stone and in turn take it with you!

Instructions
Step 1
Using the 400 grit sandpaper, clean the wire. Center the wire and bend it around the 12 mm end of the mandrel pliers and remove.

Step 2
Lay the looped part on the steel bench block and texturize with the round side of the chasing hammer approximately 1" along the loop.

Step 3
Using the 15 mm end of the mandrel pliers, bend a 'U' shape in the end of the looped part of the copper wire until it is almost ¾ of the way closed.

Step 4
Cut a ¾" piece of pattern wire. Hold the piece on the bench pin and smooth the ends with the flat file.

Step 5
Using round nose pliers, make a bend in one end of the pattern wire.

Step 6
Using a second pair of round nose pliers, make a bend on the opposite end of the pattern wire, this now resembles a staple.

Step 7
Using flat nose pliers, adjust the bends in the pattern wire.

Step 8
Since you work hardened the looped end of the wire and bent it, this allowed a bit of spring in the wire. Snap your chosen stone in as shown.

Step 9
Using your flat nose pliers, snug the wires to secure the stone, bending them slightly at the base of the staple. Using flat nose pliers, bend the wire tails at a 45 degree angle, as shown.

Step 10
Using round nose pliers, curl the tail wires to make the bail, stop within ¾" off the end.

Step 11
Using the steel bench block and the flat face of the chasing hammer, flatten the last ¾" of the wire. Smooth the end with the flat file.

Step 12
Continue with round nose pliers and finish off the flattened ends.

Step 13
Slide the necklace component through the coiled bail.
