This large beaded pendant is made with a hammered copper circle. The beads sit inside on a head pin and the bail is wrapped using the excess head pin wire. This pendant utilizes a hammer texture to work harden the wire so it will hold the shape.

Instructions
Step 1
Hammer the 1.5mm square wire with the ball peen hammer to texture, and slightly spread the metal. Cut the wire to 70mm long and file both ends so they are square.

Step 2
Using the mallet, hammer the wire around the ring mandrel. I start getting both ends into a circular shape, then I form the rest of the wire around the mandrel, starting at the largest part and gradually moving down the mandrel until the ends of the wire have overlapped.

Bring the ends together and keep working on the join until the ends fit tightly together. I ran my saw blade gently through the join just before I was ready to solder it so the join was clean and tight. I'm using silver solder with copper metal and the tighter the join is the less the silver solder will show.

Step 3
To solder the ring, flux the join and a small solder chip and place the solder under the join. I heat the back half of the ring first to allow the metal to expand towards the join rather than away from it.

Once the ring is hot, focus evenly on the join so both sides share the flame. The solder will flow to the hottest part, so both sides need to be about the same temperature.

Quench the ring and then pickle it. Clean up the solder join so it is barely noticeable.

Step 4
Check the ring on the mandrel and using the nylon hammer tap any parts that aren't quite round. Check that the sides are flat by placing it on the bench block and using a nylon hammer, tap it flat.

Sand the ring so it still has some texture remaining, but any tool marks are gone.

Step 5
Mark the center of the ring band at the top of the ring and using a sharp point make an indent for the drill bit. Drill the hole and clean up the surface with sandpaper.

Step 6
Thread the large and small bead onto the head pin and thread the head pin through the drilled hole.

Step 7
Place the copper ring against the bench block and pull the head pin end across the block so it is taut. Hammer the head pin wire with the cross peen hammer to texture and harden the wire.

Step 8
Bend the wire 90 degrees so it lies across the copper ring towards the front. Place the drill bit shank over the wire and tightly wrap the wire around the drill bit.

After the first wrap, go from one side of the first wrap to the other. In total there were 4 wraps. Use pliers to tuck the end of the wire in at the back.
