This pretty twisted bracelet creates a delicate look using only one length and gauge of wire. The tutorial also demonstrates how to create your own handmade hook clasp without the need to add additional wire or components. Any size bead or crystal can be used depending on your preference.

Instructions

Step 1

Take one length of wire at approximately 24 inches/ 30cm in length and straighten if required. Bring the ends together to find the center.

Step 2

Create a loop at the center point using round nose or bail step pliers by crossing the wires over each other.

Step 3

Twist the ends of the wire twice to lock the loop in place.

Step 4

This loop will then form part of the clasp.

Add two beads onto each end of the wire.

Step 6

Draw the wires close together, so that they run parallel and so that the beads are positioned on top of each other.

Step 7

Bring the top wire over the bottom wire.

Step 8

Wrap it around the bottom wire once.

The wires should now have changed position so that the top wire that is wrapped around is now running along the bottom.

Step 10

Add on another two beads to each end of the wires.

Position the wires close together so that the beads sit closely together.

Step 12

Twist the top wire around the wire running along the bottom to lock the beads in place.

Step 13

Add on the next four beads onto both of the wires.

Continue to twist the wires after each set of beads.

Step 15

If the twisted wires need neatening and tightening up, use pliers to pinch them closer together.

Repeat the process of adding beads and twisting the wire after each cluster of beads.

Step 17

Add on beads until you have almost reached the required length that you would like the bracelet to be.

Step 18

When you have added on the last beads and completed the final twist, there should be approximately 2-2.5 inches of tail ends of wire remaining.

Step 19

Bend the wire that is not wrapped around, back down on itself at the centre.

Step 20

Use chain nose pliers to push it close alongside itself so that it is running parallel, back towards the beads.

Step 21

Trim off any excess wire at the point where the other end of the wire is wrapped around.

This wire that is folded back on itself should now be in line at the top of the last twist.

Use the other wire that is wrapped around forming the twist to bind this folded over wire to itself.

Continue to wrap the wire around until it is fully secure.

Step 25

The end of the binding coiled wire can be cut off or made into a decorative spiral using round nose pliers.

Step 26

Position the spiral on the outside of the folded wire or if cutting off the excess coiled wire, ensure it is cut on the outside of the bracelet and sharp ends are tucked down to prevent it catching or scratching.

Step 27

At the middle of the doubled/folded wire, bend back around the round nose pliers.

Step 28

The bend should now point down towards the beads on the bracelet to form a hook clasp.

Step 29

Pinch the very tip of this bend with chain nose pliers.

Make a small upwards bend to flick up this point of the hook.

Step 31

Your hook will now form the other half of your clasp and should fit easily through the loop on the opposite end of the bracelet to create a fastening.

Shape with your fingers from the middle of the bracelet outwards or shape it around a bracelet mandrel or something cylindrical shaped.

Form the bracelet shape so that the ends can attach together, to close the bracelet.
