Color Inspiration - Glacier Blues

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to teach beading classes on an Alaskan cruise. It was one of my travel highlights! We spent half a day in Glacier Bay and I just couldn't comprehend the variety of blues reflected in the water and ice of the glacier. I vowed to memorize those colors to use in future jewelry projects so here's one of them!
This image is of the Hubbard Glacier taken by a friend, captures the colors and beauty so well, I had to use it! Hubbard Glacier is 76 miles long, 6 miles wide, 1,200 feet deep and sits over 300 feet above the water! This glacier is off the coast of Yakutat and the largest tidewater glacier in North America. Nicknamed the "galloping glacier" due to its quick movement toward the Gulf of Alaska through Disenchantment Bay.

The hues of this color pallet are so rich and varied I decided to use a seed bead mix to capture the shimmer of the glacier. This is a great project to use up your size 15 bead soup! To make your own glacier blue bead mix, simply blend 3-6 different colored bead tubes in the same blue family.
