Question:

Which one of the pendant videos would you recommend to someone who can only buy one? I can buy more, but I want to know the best one to get me started. With all the wire and tools to buy, I can’t buy a lot of DVDs.

Answer:

Hi Linda, yes, beginning any hobby or home business does take a bit of seed money. Individual DVDs on Wire-Sculpture do go on sale several times a year, so keep an eye out for those sale emails!

In my opinion, the best pendant DVD to begin with is #2 in the Beginner Series, Orbit Earrings & Framed Freeform Cabochon Pendant. My reasoning is because on this DVD, my instructions for making a cabochon pendant do not specify only one size and shape stone, rather I give you the complete formulations so you can use the techniques taught to make a wire frame to fit any size or shape of cabochon!! The picture is of a freeform cabochon, but you can make a wrapped oval cabochon following the same steps.

The “Orbit” earrings are a great additional project, as they make up quickly and have been a best seller for me for many years.

By working both projects on this DVD, you can make pendant and earrings sets to match and give as gifts or sell; either way, making you some extra money so you can continue growing as a wire jewelry creator. Have fun!!

   Yes, the DVD will be a help to anyone wanting to learn wire wrapping. But, to take some lessons first hand from an instructor is also needed. I teach wire wrapping at my studio and at a Lapidary School. A lot of local Rock and Gem Clubs offer lessons also. The different instructors you can learn from will help you create your style of Wire Wrapping.

     Sally, We are sorry that you felt that way. If you read the question posed to Dale from our reader, you’ll see that it was specifically asking “which one would you suggest that I purchase?” Dale was simply giving her suggestions as to which one would she thought would be the best on a limited budget. We felt that it was actually a great tip! Most beginners have to be very selective about what they purchase as they get started and sometimes ask for our recommendations regarding the best instructional dvds to help them. That was the intent of this “Tip”, was to give information about what was on the DVD and then let the customer make the determination whether it would be right for them or not. I hope that helps you understand the reason for the tip a little more clearly.
