Today we have a quick tip about organizing your wire With the winter months coming on, this is a great snowy day activity that will help you keep your wire right at your fingertips. Take a look!

Albina says: I keep all my coils of wire (I order mine from WireJewelry.com of course) in an accordion folder.

Here’s how I organize:

  • I have separate folders for different wires: copper, sterling silver, sterling silver filled, etc.
  • Each pocket is labeled with the gauge and type (dead soft- DS, half hard- HH).
  • Keeping the wire inside plastic bags will also cut down on tarnish (I keep my wire in the original bags.)
  • It’s easy to see what I have and what needs to be reordered.

    This looks like the best idea yet. I’d read somewhere that using a binder with the pocket pages would work but have found this cumbersome, for me anyway. I think I’ll give this a try. From your sample it appears you are using a single file to holder to hold one type of wire such as sterling silver?.

    I learned this idea on here when I first started wrapping, and it is great. Now if I could just find a simple way to organize my beads.

    How funny! I started sorting my wire like this several months ago! My gold and silver wire is in an accordion file that has a handle attached to the top. My copper and rose gold were in a handle-less second accordion file, and my brass, aluminum, and craft wire were in a third. I wanted a way to grab two and three easier, so I made handles for each from old belts which I duct taped to the underside of the flap of the accordion file, and “voile”- Handles! So far, so good! I’ve got an old Aigner belt for a handle! My daughter has also started using an accordion file for her wire as well! You know what they say about great minds! Brenda

    I do something similar with organizing my wire. I have a very nice oak 2 drawer file cabinet. I store ny wire in hanging files in the top drawer. Then the second drawer for the large spools of wire.

    Go to amazon and search for:
    Akro-Mils 10164 64 drawer plastic part storage hardware and craft cabinet.
    I have been thinking about trying this cabinet but have not got it yet.
    It is an idea. they have different size’s.
    Hope that at least gives you an Idea :)

      I use an akro-mils cabinet. It sits on my work desk in close range so it’s easy to find what I need. I use it for head and eye pins, wire, clasps, earring findings, etc. Plus I have another one that I use for the items I use a lot; sterling round beads,spacer beads and jump rings. I use the accordion file folders for pictures that I like and use for ideas. I file them according to idea; bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc.

      Also, for the person who needs a bead organizing solution, I use Item # 8234916 at Joann’s Craft. They are clear, individual containers that come in a hard plastic pack. I use them for my crystals and have them organized by color and labeled by style. They work perfectly.
