Wire Jewelry Inspiration for
January 21, 2013
Featured Instructor: Albina Manning
Albina Manning, who you already know from her Coiling & Weaving DVDs from Wire-Sculpture.com, will be offering 7 fun classes in Tucson! Albina is offering several different techniques in her classes, including wire crochet, weaving wire, the Tree of Life wire design, and several effects, such as hammering and finishing.
While Albina’s wirework looks like she’s alwasy been a natural, she wasn’t always a wire artist. In the beginning, Albina was creating beaded jewelry. Then, when she tried to make something with wire, "I loved to make jewelry even more!" she said. "I have a lot of fun bending, coiling, wrapping, hammering, and playing with it."

Teaching is my passion. Jewelry class should be fun, so every single person there is having a great time, including me! -Albina Manning
As you can see, Albina has a knack for incorporating woven wire in beautiful pieces: some is so neatly done, that it looks like knit fabric! Albina has several tips to help you get consistent weaves and wraps, whether you’re using round wire or square. While weaving is a lot about using your thumbs and forefingers to direct and mold the wire, you can always nudge wires into place with chain nose pliers, using nylon jaw pliers to “erase” kinks in the wire if there’s a mistake.
And this will be the first time we’ve offered a wire crochet course, which I know will be very popular – it’s one of the classes we get asked about the most!
I asked Albina what her favorite thing about the Tucson gem shows is. She told me, "It is like a vacation for me. Some people go on a cruise, and I go to Tucson! " The JOGS Show, which has many upscale gemstone vendors and gift booths as well as finished jewelry, is one of her favorite shows.
We are lucky have Albina Manning as one of the returning JewelryTools.com instructors this year in Tucson, Feb. 1-12, at booth #N1 at the JOGS Show in Tucson, Arizona!
