Wire Jewelry Inspiration for
January 7, 2013
Featured Instructor: Debora Mauser
Debora Mauser has taught her wire jewelry classes all over the country, but this year will be her first trip to Tucson! She said, "I can’t wait to get to feel the excitement of this wonderful time!" And it will be an exciting time with the huge variety of jewelry technique classes to choose from – and Debora’s textured wire jewelry classes are filling up fast.
Debora, like many of us, is mostly self-taught but has been able to attend jewelry classes from talented instructors, expanding her skills and jewelry vision. Over the last 12 years of making jewelry, Debora has dabbled in wire, beading, metal smithing, enameling, and more, but her first love is wire. Debora says she loves wire because of all the options it provides, in texture and form and shape.

I love all aspects of teaching; the sharing, the inspiration, the fellowship but the biggest thing is the ah-hah moment that I see in students’ faces when they “get it”, whatever the technique is that we are working on. Knowing that I can share and help others in expressing their creativity is just magic! -Debora Mauser
Debora’s jewelry style has changed over the years, but she says the single common theme throughout her jewelry is texture. Debora’s Wild Woman Bangles are one of her most popular classes, which combine freeform wire wrapping with several different techniques, including making wire beads, and different types of wire.
While Debora’s projects can be made with any metal, Debora’s using silver and copper, which are hot metals right now! Copper’s no longer just a practice metal: with Debora’s texturing, patina-ing, and enameling techniques, your copper jewelry will look like fine art jewelry! Debora’s classes use wire as a complete artistic element, not just as a framing or connecting tool. You’ll never look at a plain piece of round wire the same way again.
You might be curious what types of tools Debora likes to use. She said, her favorite tool is her small round nose Lindstrom pliers – she uses them every day!
We are lucky have Debora Mauser as one of the JewelryTools.com instructors this year in Tucson, Feb. 1-12, at the JOGS Show in Tucson, Arizona!
