Tool of the Week for September 24, 2012

This week’s tool: 9-1/4" Digital Caliper, #GAU-179.00

Video by Kate, JewelryTools.com

This week’s featured tool from JewelryTools.com is the 9-1/4" Digital Caliper GAU-179.00. No squinting to read the dial or count sixteenths of an inch: the LCD display clearly tells you at-a-glance just how big that faceted stone or cabochon is. Measures up to 6", so you can also easily measure those raw crystals and specimens you’ve found.

Got a bag of new jump rings or chain and want to know the Inner Diameter? Use the thin bars on top of this Digital Caliper to measure the inside of your chain or jump rings. And, you can even measure how deep something is, like a snapset, with the sliding "tail" of the caliper.

This digital caliper comes with all the bells and whistles. You can see in the picture how this set includes a "table" to hold the stone you’re measuring, which attaches to one of the caliper arms. You’ll get precise measurements using the fine-adjustment thumb wheel. If you’re working on an advanced project, you’ll love the zero function to tare the caliper. This tool will help you make the perfect prong ring or cabochon pendant every time.

Comes with nylon and foam carrying case and a spare battery. A thoughtful gift for a wire jewelry artist.

I love my digital calipers, which I did buy at Wire-Sculpture.com. They are absolutely perfect for getting the correct and accurate measurement on jump rings, when you need the inner dimension or the outer dimension, or when measuring gem stones, especially small ones, and need the width, length and depth. I just don’t know what I would do without them otherwise!

ISUPPOSE IT IS ME BUT I REALLY DON’T LIKE THE DIGITAL CALIPER.
I JUST HAVE A HARD TIME READING THEM IF I AM MEASURING GEM STONES.
