    Does this protectant harm pearls, beads or gems? Is there a problem with build up if put on too much?

    Alternatively, you could use Argentium (there is no copper but rather germanium for the alloy) or a non-allergenic metal such as niobium.

    This is a terrific product, but do not put it on your pearls, beads or gems, just on the metal. It applies and dries like nail polish. It does wear off if subjected to friction. I use it on my eyeglasses where the enamel has worn off the ears.

    I thought that Argentium only replaced part of the copper with Geranium, I thought it was about 1%.

    The allergy that shows up most in jewelry is from nickle, not copper. Copper has the ‘green’ problem, and since it is more reactive, it is a poor choice for ear wires.

    Ear wires seem to be where allergies are the worst. I can wear SS chains, but not ear wires. I can’t wear fine silver wires either, since my allergy is to the silver! What is odd, is that I do not have problems with cheap ear wires.

    I’ve been using ProtectaSeal from Everbrite Coatings for my copper jewelry, and it’s wonderful as well. And it lasts much longer than 3 months after it’s applied.

    Can Jewelry Shield be used on Artistic wire or other color coated wire to help keep the finnish intact?
