Question:

Dale, what size of round nose pliers do you use, and where can I buy them? I’ve ordered a few but they are too small for my hand. Thanks.

Answer:

Hi Cathy, I actually use 3 different pair of round nose pliers regularly. My favorite for most uses are similar to the Precision Round Nose Pliers, very affordable (and the ones that I mark and score). Yes, they have short handles, but I don’t have them in my hand for long periods of time (like I do flat nose pliers).

For tiny detail work, I use the Swanstrom Round Nose Pliers; a more affordable alternative would be the pair called Name Writing Long Round Nose Pliers. Both of these pliers have longer handles, making them easier to use. All of the pliers I have mentioned are very comfortable to use!

    I have gone through several prs of round nose pliers…they do wear out…I make linked rosaries so I have them in hand a lot..haven’t found a real comfortable pr yet but I did start changing every so often because each pr is different in where it lays in your hand. Everyone is different in how they grasp the pliers..and work the wire…good luck and happy wiring..

    One of the best ways to get pliers that you like are to actually hold them in your hands before buying them. I realize this is difficulat if you are ordering out of a catalog. Perhaps by holding a pair that are very comfortable in your hands and then measuring the total length and also the handle length, you can get a good idea of what will be a “good fit.”

    Great Question and thanks for the product info Dale. I recently received a “freebie” in a kit I ordered from another company and the freebie was a pair of round nosed pliers. The jaws on these are very grainy and rough and the pliers are totally unusable. They are from a company I respect totally and I don’t know what happened, except that they were a freebie and maybe they just wanted to get rid of the “bad” ones or something. Anyway folks, watch what you order and be sure that the quality of the points on your round nosed pliers are smooth and equally pointed (same sized points). The ones Dale has recommended look wonderful and I want to get the more expensive ones as soon as I am able. Thanks again Dale for all your great info!
