Daily Tip June 18: Pricing Bracelets
Daily Wire Jewelry Making Tip
June 18, 2010
Question:
I’ve made one of your Chevron bracelets (found in Wirework) and was wondering, what do you usually sell yours for? I know yours would sell for a lot more than mine, since I’m just learning this pattern, but I have made one and was curious. Much thanks for everything.
-Sherry in Coulterville, California
Answer:
As far as my bracelet selling for more than yours, Sherry, that is not necessarily true. Think about what you have just made; actually two different projects combined into one. What would you charge individually for each project, according to the materials/stone used? Now add those two prices together and add a bit more for the “designer” aspect; this is your price! For more information, please see my recent article, How to Price Your Wire Jewelry. Just remember to never devalue your pieces!

I have yet to make my first project but am waiting for the mail for my supplies to come. I have really gotten intrigued with working with wire and the properties of how different wire work. I love the tips I get in the mail ever day and have read them all. Hopefully I will be a great bender and creator of neat jewelry

Folks, a few of you say you are disappointed that I did not answer this question in the manner that you expected; meaning that I should tell you how much to sell an item for. I cannot tell you what to sell your particular version of a design for, without knowing where you live, what the local economy is like, what the fashion market is in that area, what materials you used, the quality of your work, etc. By giving you the information I did within the pricing article, you will be able to figure out what is good for you.
If you want ‘my’ price, well I have sold versions of that bracelet for $175 to $345, depending on what area of the country I was in, what season it was, and the materials I used.

I don’t know if you are still around, but thanx for the encouraging tips! I am really an Outsider artist looking to expand her creative horizons. I have sold my first pair of earrings ,made of found objects, many, many moons ago. have potential customers in my church, they have seen my art and say I should make jewelry. So ‘ll try. Thanx and Be Blessed !
