Daily Wire Jewelry Making Tip

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Question:
I saw a silver wire wrap bird nest with pearls for the eggs. What gauge silver wire would be suitable to weave the nest?
Answer:
I think I have seen the piece you mention and I would choose the wire gauge according to the size of the pearls I was planning to use as the eggs. Probably a 24g round half-hard or 22g round soft wire would work best.

The designer states that she uses 24 gauge wire. But how will you clean sterling silver wire without damaging the pearls???

I would use an ionic cleaner, which will safely clean about everything jewelry related. (Watch for both a video and written directions regarding the Speed Brite, coming in just a couple of weeks!)

I have seen those bird nest designs as well and thought that would be a real pain to clean without having an ionic cleaner to use. And, once cleaned I would probably tuck it into a zipper bag with a piece of non tarnish strip to keep it nice and shiny. I have to admit that the design is a cute one and does indeed look like a little bird nest with eggs.
